THE ENTREPRENEURIAL EXPERIENCE

Startup Pirates is not an event. It is a whole experience for life.

In this one-week program, our pirates dive in the startup world and have the opportunity and the tools to develop a business idea from scratch.

But if you think Startup Pirates is only about developing one idea, think again. This is a whole experience, the ultimate entrepreneurship trial, the entrance to a unique and exclusive worldwide community of change-makers and the boost you've been waiting for.

We gather the most promising aspiring entrepreneurs and fearless experienced guests to share and learn together in a combination of workshops, mentoring, inspirational moments and some wild surprises.

This is not the place to be taught, is the place to learn!

"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin

The Bioengineering Student's Group (Núcleo de Estudantes de Bioengenharia - FEUP/ICBAS) has been entirely ran by students taking their MSc on Bioengineering, a joint programme between two Faculties of the University of Porto: the Faculty of Engineering and the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences.  The group aims at the organization of events and activities for the Bioengineering student community and the establishment of a communication network involving other student groups, as well as companies, research institutes, universities and other scientific organizations, both national and international.

The IEEE Student Branch of the University of Porto (IEEE UP SB) is currently one of the many IEEE Student Branches, both nationally and globally. As it is known, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) appeals to professionals and students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Student Branch is distinguished by its level of activity in the academic community, either by the activities of dissemination, playful or by external and complementary training. Of note among these activities are the workshops offered periodically throughout the school year, visits to companies and involvement with students in basic education in order to promote scientific disciplines and help them in choosing an academic course. Internal to the Student Branch there are still a variety of projects complementary to the training given by the faculty and that strengthen both technical and interpersonal skills and still develop connections with several companies.

StartUp BUZZ is an organization dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship and inspire young people to adopt a bold attitude facing a world full of opportunities. The organization was created by students, for students. Their main goal is to help young college students to boost their ideas and shape them to assert themselves as true business opportunities. In order for this to happen, they provide creative monitoring sessions, supported by innovative methodologies. At the same time, they organize events guided by an environment that promotes innovation and networking, in order to foster entrepreneurship within and outside the college. In these are involved their stakeholders and their contact list, which includes alumni, entrepreneurs, professionals and other academic organizations. Their commitment is to maintain, throughout our journey, a committed and irreverent attitude face to the challenges of a world on the rise.

Why Digital Health?

The technological advances evidenced in recent years have significantly modified health care processes, with a growing trend. MarketsandMarkets indicates that the digital health market will grow about 13.5% between the period from 2015 to 2020. Indeed, nowadays, with the great data storage capabilities achieved with the clouds and even on computers themselves, it is already possible to easily access and analyze through interactive softwares the patient's health history. Therefore, the evolution of a disease as well as quantitative perception of the effects of a given treatment can be better understood. Also with the processing capabilities achieved today, it is possible that these same results are delivered in a very short time in a very reliable way, thus saving time and attention to health professionals. Finally, the processes evidenced in new non-invasive diagnostic devices and small portable monitoring systems may be another examples of this emerging vogue of digital health innovation.

With the purpose to encourage and support brilliant business ideas in the health area,  EMBS Portugal organizes a week of entrepreneurship between 9 and 16 September dedicated to the acceleration of ideas in the area mentioned above. This initiative has the financial support of Scale UP and Câmara Municipal do Porto. You will have moments of fun, learning through workshops / lectures, mentoring sessions, work sessions and the final pitch where you can be part of the winning team. Participate with us in Startup Pirates Porto - Digital Health Edition.
